Vehicle Tax Calculator · सवारी कर क्याल्कुलेटर
Estimate province-specific annual vehicle tax, bluebook renewal fees and fines, and supported third-party insurance from one CC-linked calculation.
Estimate only — your local transport office has final authority on the amount due. Provincial rates are versioned and sourced; if no verified table exists for your case, this tool will say so rather than guess. Exact insurance is limited to the supported tariff categories shown in the calculator.
About this tool & FAQ
How Nepal's vehicle tax works
Annual vehicle tax in Nepal is set independently by each province's Ministry of Economic Affairs, and the amount depends on vehicle type (motorcycle, car/jeep/van, heavy machinery, tractor, etc.), propulsion (petrol/diesel engines are taxed by engine capacity in cc, electric vehicles by motor power in kW or, in some provinces, by vehicle value), whether the vehicle is privately or publicly registered, and the vehicle's age.
Why this calculator asks for your province and fiscal year
Because provinces set their own rate tables independently and revise them on their own schedule, there is no single nationwide figure. This tool looks up a versioned, source-cited rate table for the exact province and fiscal year you select — and when a province's current fiscal year hasn't been independently verified yet, it says so honestly and offers the last verified fiscal year instead, rather than guessing.
What "unverified" means here
Every rate record carries an effective fiscal year and a citation to the official provincial Economic Act or Financial Act it came from, and stays marked unverified until an administrator independently confirms it against that source. This tool never estimates from an unconfirmed number.
Why some provinces show last year's rate as "latest"
Nepal's provinces don't all publish their new fiscal year's vehicle-tax schedule at the same time, and tax rates rarely change year to year. Where a province's current-fiscal-year schedule hasn't been reliably verified yet, this calculator uses its last verified fiscal year as the latest available rate — clearly labelled with that year, never silently relabeled as the current year.
How the capacity slab picker works
Rather than a continuous slider (which can hide the exact cc/kW boundary a legal slab actually falls on), this tool lets you pick your vehicle's use, propulsion and category, then choose the matching capacity slab directly from the official schedule, optionally refining it with an exact cc/kW/value figure.
One calculation for tax, renewal and supported insurance
The provincial engine calculates the annual vehicle tax first. That result then flows automatically into the bluebook-renewal calculation, while the same exact cc, W or kW value selects the supported third-party-insurance tariff. Vehicle-tax fines and registration-renewal fines are kept as separate line items because they follow different rules.
FAQ
- Why does my province show a fiscal year that isn't the current one?
- That province's current fiscal year's schedule hasn't been independently verified against its official Economic Act yet. Since vehicle-tax rates rarely change year to year, the calculator shows the last verified fiscal year's rate instead — clearly labelled with that year — rather than guessing at the current year's figure.
- Does vehicle tax differ by province?
- Yes — each of Nepal's provinces sets its own vehicle-tax rate table independently, so the same vehicle can owe a different amount depending on where it's registered.
- Why do I pick a capacity slab from a list instead of typing my engine size?
- Official schedules are defined in discrete slabs (e.g. "up to 125cc", "126–150cc"), not a continuous scale. Picking the slab directly avoids ambiguity right at a boundary; you can still enter your exact cc/kW/value figure to double-check which slab it falls in.
- Who has final authority on the amount I actually owe?
- Your local Transport Management Office. This calculator is always an informational estimate, never an official assessment. For several unpaid fiscal years, each year's annual tax still needs that year's separately verified provincial rate table.
