How SEE GPA is calculated
Your SEE GPA is credit-weighted: each subject's grade point is multiplied by its credit hours, those products are summed, and the total is divided by the sum of all credit hours. Compulsory Nepali, English, Mathematics and Science and Technology each carry 5 credits, Social Studies carries 4, and every Optional I / Optional II subject carries 4 — so a typical 7-subject result is calculated over 32 credits.
Why Optional I and Optional II are kept separate
The current SEE subject-code schedule assigns Optional I as subject 6 and Optional II as subject 7, each drawn from its own official catalogue — Optional I includes subjects like Economics, Additional Mathematics and language options; Optional II includes subjects like Computer Science, Health and Physical Education, and vocational/technical options. The two lists are never mixed, matching the official schedule.
Final grade or theory + internal components
Enter either one final letter grade per subject, or — if your marksheet shows them separately — a theory grade and an internal (practical/continuous-assessment) grade. In component mode, each subject's own credit hours are split into a theory portion and an internal portion (for example a 5-credit subject as 3.75 theory + 1.25 internal), each graded and weighted separately, then recombined into that subject's overall grade point. This is not the same as simply averaging the two grades.
Health, Population and Environment Education (older marksheets)
The current SEE subject-code schedule does not include Health, Population and Environment Education as a sixth compulsory subject — it appears only on older marksheets. This calculator keeps it behind an opt-in "older marksheet" checkbox rather than silently adding it to every current result.
When your GPA is withheld
If any subject is marked NG (Not Graded) or left incomplete, the official GPA is withheld — this calculator will never substitute zero for a missing or non-graded subject. Where every entered subject is complete, it also shows an indicative GPA computed only from those subjects, clearly labelled as indicative rather than official.

FAQ
- Why isn't Health, Population and Environment Education in my compulsory list?
- The current official SEE subject-code schedule (2080) lists five compulsory subjects, not six — HPE was compulsory only on older marksheets. Tick "older marksheet" if your result includes it.
- Can I mix an Optional I subject into the Optional II slot?
- No — the official schedule keeps these as two separate catalogues (subject 6 and subject 7). This calculator only lets you pick from each subject's own correct list.
- What happens if one of my subjects shows NG?
- The official GPA is withheld entirely, matching how NG is treated on the actual marksheet. An indicative GPA over your remaining graded subjects is shown separately, clearly labelled as indicative.
- Is this the same as my official transcript GPA?
- This is an informational estimate using the current, sourced subject-code and grading structure. Always confirm your final GPA against your original SEE marksheet issued by the Office of the Controller of Examinations.
