Tola vs. gram — Nepal's gold pricing units
Gold and silver in Nepal are traditionally priced per tola (a unit equal to 11.6638038 grams), alongside the more globally familiar per-10-gram pricing. Both fine gold (99.9% pure, the standard for bullion/investment) and tejabi gold (a slightly lower purity common in jewelry) are quoted separately, since they trade at different prices.
Where these rates come from
Rates are intended to be sourced from FENEGOSIDA (Federation of Nepal Gold & Silver Dealers' Association), the trade body that publishes Nepal's reference bullion rates. We only retrieve rates through this channel once we have written confirmation that automated retrieval is acceptable to FENEGOSIDA — until then, this tool honestly shows no data rather than a fabricated or scraped-without-permission figure. How we protect against bad data
Even once live, every fetched value passes a plausibility check before being published — including cross-checking that the per-tola and per-10-gram prices for the same metal are internally consistent using the fixed gram/tola conversion constant. If a fetch fails, returns an implausible value, or the source site's structure changes unexpectedly, the last known-good rate is kept and clearly badged as possibly stale — never silently replaced with bad data.

- Gold/silver ingestion from FENEGOSIDA is intentionally opt-in and disabled until we have their written confirmation that automated retrieval of their rates is acceptable. This tool shows an honest "no data yet" state rather than a fabricated number.
- What's the difference between fine gold and tejabi gold?
- Fine gold is 99.9% pure (the bullion/investment standard); tejabi gold has a slightly lower purity that's more common in traditional jewelry-making, and the two are priced separately.
- How much is a tola in grams?
- 1 tola = 11.6638038 grams — a fixed conversion constant, not an estimate.
- Will rates ever go stale silently?
- No — if a fetch fails or the source hasn't published a new rate, the last known-good rate is shown with a visible "may be out of date" badge, never silently as current.
