Common reasons an upload is rejected ·
- The file is over the KB limit — some portals count 1 KB as 1,024 bytes, so aim below both readings.
- The pixel size is not exactly 600×600.
- The format is not JPG — renaming a file does not change its format.
- A phone photo saved sideways: the result here is always upright.

About this tool & FAQ
How KB limits really work
Portals disagree on what “1 KB” means — some count 1,000 bytes, others 1,024. A file that is 200 KB by one reading can be 195 KB by the other. This tool aims just under the stricter reading of the maximum (with a 2% safety margin) and above the stricter reading of any minimum, and the result shows both numbers so you can compare them with the notice.
Why each preset shows a source and a date
Upload limits change between application windows, and many limits shared online are only reported, not official. A preset appears here only when it has an official notice or a screenshot of the portal's own upload screen behind it, and every preset card links that source and shows when it was last checked. Limits that are only reported are offered as suggestions in Custom mode, clearly labelled.
If the file is still too small or too large
If a portal asks for a minimum size and your image is very small, the tool raises the quality first; it never pads the file with junk data to reach a number. If the maximum cannot be met at the required pixel size, it says so instead of silently changing the size. When the notice gives no pixel size, the tool may reduce the pixels to fit the KB limit, and tells you it did.
FAQ
- Are my photos or documents uploaded?
- No. Resizing, cropping, whitening and compression all run in your browser. The only thing ever sent is your optional yes/no answer to “Did the portal accept it?”, which helps us spot presets that have gone out of date.
- Which formats can I use?
- JPG, PNG, WebP and iPhone HEIC photos, and the first page of a scanned PDF. The result can be JPG, PNG or an A4 PDF, whichever the portal asks for.
- My organisation isn't listed. What do I do?
- Use Custom mode and type in exactly what the notice says — the size in px (or mm with DPI) and the KB limits. You can save that setting in your browser for next time.
- Does whitening work for signatures on lined or grey paper?
- Whitening picks a paper/ink threshold automatically and removes small specks. If faint strokes disappear or the paper stays grey, move the whitening slider and process again.
